On the 20th and 21st of December, a group of Y13 girls (Dimana Stoyanova, Anastasia Gerontiti, Faidra Koukouli, Elina Cabuco, Eugenya Kozak) decided to organise a Christmas fair as their CAS project. Their aim was to sell as many products as they could in order to donate the money they earn to cancer research.
They sold the following products:
- Handmade soap made by the soap club
- Crochet ornaments made by the crochet club
- Cookies which you can decorate with icing
- Laser cut puzzles made from student drawings
To raise interest in the fair and motivate students to donate more, they created a system for which every euro you donated equaled 1 class chart point. In doing so, they were able to raise exactly €400: an incredible achievement for a just two-day fair.
The charity they chose to donate their money to is AIRC. This foundation focuses on cancer research and offers different types of donations. In memory of a loved one, you can subsidise a young researcher’s professional career abroad or buy wedding favours and scrolls to give to loved ones.
In the spirit of St. Louis, taking opportunities to support the less fortunate is crucial. As a privileged and healthy community, we believe in the power of our collective action, which can bring profound impacts to global issues such as cancer research.
