High School Students take part in Model United Nations debate
This year several students from our school attended the Milan Model United Nations conference at Bocconi University at the end of March.
I was in the Security Council representing the country of Ukraine. It is an amazing event that brings together dozens of schools from many different countries to debate extremely important topics in the context of the United Nations. It’s amazing to be in such an international and motivated environment, where you have the opportunity to meet many people from all over the world and listen to a variety of eye-opening perspectives.
It’s a very vibrant and engaging environment and if you are truly interested in the topics you become completely engrossed in the debate. The end goal is to pass a resolution to propose a solution to the issue. It is only a simulation of the United Nations conference but you become so involved you forget it’s a mock.
The conference was hosted at Bocconi by the Manzoni Istituto. They also provided a MUN newspaper with the latest news and the resolutions that passed and even some committee gossip. There were also teams of photographers and at the end of the committees and the conference we elected the best delegate in a variety of categories.
Because the conference was held at Bocconi made the whole conference even better and it served as a beautiful backdrop.
Overall I believe that the conference was a success. For first timers it was a great way to plunge into the world of Model United nations and for more experienced debaters it was a great challenge and experience.
