This year, 51% of the global population will be able to vote to change or maintain its country’s leader. Exactly 76 countries will hold elections in the course of 2024, which might lead to a change in the current geopolitical scene.
Some of the world’s most populated nations will have elections; of which Bangladesh, Brasil, India, Mexico, Russia and the United States, along with many others.
The first election of this year happened in Taiwan, whose results will most probably change its relations with China. The closing country will be the United States of America, which sees a contest between former president Trump and the current president, Biden.
With so many countries potentially changing leadership, there are bound to be drastic policy changes between nations, the geopolitical scene will likely mutate and cause a change in relations between countries.
However, it is essential to understand that not all the elections will be completely democratic. Out of these 76 countries, only 43 meet the requests for being considered democracies, with free and fair elections. Therefore, many of the nations just hold elections as a formality to re-elect their current president.
Moreover, 2024 might be a year of surprises regarding politics, which may change the course of current wars, as well as future ones.
