Valentines Day? I’ve got no time for that
Valentine’s Day is a worldwide celebration revolving around love and relationships, and it is often considered by many to be the best day of the year. This 14th of February will signal my 19th Valentine’s Day, and I can’t say that I have ever enjoyed the holiday in any way whatsoever.
Personally, I consider Valentine’s Day to be a far inferior holiday to the likes of Christmas, Halloween and even Easter, mainly due to the fact that it is not worthy of time off school. Instead, we all have to go to work and school as well as somehow find the time and effort to buy a fancy present for our other halves. The supermarkets try to help by lining their aisles with fluffy teddy bears, heart-shaped chocolates and huge bouquets of flowers, but not a single one of their supposed Valentine’s gifts is not tacky. The aisles end up displaying a cheap selection of pink and red presents that no one truly wants, but that everyone feels that they have to buy in order to be a proper Valentine.
It is hard to see any real gain from Valentine’s Day, other than the masses of money that shops receive in return for their cheap gifts. With my IB exams just around the corner, I can’t help but think about how insignificant this celebration really is. Unfortunately, Valentine’s Day is one of those historical festivities that must be celebrated in order to respect tradition, and it seems like I will have to conform to tradition again this year and invest my time, effort and money into this pointless day.

I comment in any webpage which is administrated by italians and it just appears awating for moderation something like that. I am tired I can’t participate in the benefits of globalization communicating with people all around the world. I am here stuck in Central America. I am tired tired tired tired.

To Luke and all the Spirit of St. Louis staff:
Is cool to know about a school in Italy who has IB diploma and this website. I am from El Salvador Central America, a very small but beautiful, spanish-speaking country on the other side of the Atlantic Sea. I really would like to know more about how’d you came up with the idea of creating this website, and how you organize, perhaps I can bring this great idea to my school, where we are anxious for expressing ourselves and unifiying the students of all ages. I am 17 years old, on May 2016 I’m graduating but I really would like to bring something similar as you project to my school. In my school we also curse the IB, hard thing, thug IB life, but worth it in my perspective. I leave you my email willing to know more about you all, and hoping you Luke or any other person will answer.
And towards the article about Valentine’s Day, I can’t be more in agreement with you Luke. I hate Valentine’s Day because is more like that type of “holiday” that exists now a days with the only purpose of merchandise and selling and money.
Hoping for you to write to my mail,
Pilar Zamora.
